Kings Waterfront, Liverpool

Kings Waterfront is English Partnerships’ largest northern regeneration project into which we have invested £75.6m.

Kings Waterfront, LiverpoolThe scheme complements a waterfront strategy which includes Mann Island (with National Museums Liverpool) and Pier Head (cruise-liner landing stage and canal link), and also has an important relationship with wider city centre developments; notably Grosvenor’s Liverpool One retail development.

Our investment into the land, infrastructure and public buildings at Kings Waterfront has complemented funding from public partners and helped generate private sector confidence in Liverpool.

English Partnerships’ work has helped to create the centrepiece for Liverpool’s Capital of Culture celebrations and a legacy that will help drive the city’s economy for decades to come. The Kings Waterfront development continues with further development plots currently out to the market.

About the site

Kings Waterfront extends to approximately 14.6 ha (36.06 acres) and has a prime waterfront location alongside the River Mersey, immediately to the south of the world renowned Albert Dock complex in Liverpool.

Part of the site lies within the World Heritage Site. It was assembled in 1985-86 by dredging and in-filling three redundant branch docks and demolishing derelict dockside buildings on the former quaysides, which dated back to approximately 1907. The original masonry dock wall structures remain.

The iconic Liverpool skyline now boasts the cutting edge designs of the ACC Liverpool, with its convention centre and events arena, alongside new hotels and apartments. A new public piazza makes this a place to enjoy, while a new bridge at Dukes Dock has improved access.
