English Partnerships became part of the Homes and Communities Agency on 1 December 2008. This website is no longer being updated but is available for historical reference.

Maine Road, South Manchester

Working to support Manchester City Council, the owners of the Maine Road Stadium site, English Partnerships became a key-funding partner to assist with the demolition and site clearance of the former stadium to create an outstanding regeneration opportunity.

The site will bring opportunities for first time buyers via English Partnerships’ First Time Buyer Initiative. The design and construction of the housing is to English Partnerships’ Quality Standards, with properties achieving an Eco Homes rating of ‘Very Good’.

Housing options

In July 2003 Manchester City Council became the owners of the Maine Road Stadium in Moss Side as a result of the relocation of Manchester City Football Club to the new City of Manchester Stadium in East Manchester.

The 6.25 ha (15.5 acres) site is strategically located less than 500m from Princess Road – a key gateway route into the city.

The area surrounding the former stadium is predominantly residential, with much of the housing being rented from either the council, housing associations or private landlords. The upshot of this has been a very limited range of housing options, particularly for those wanting to buy.

Once developed, the site will provide more than 400 new homes for a broad range of people, ranging from families to young professionals.

Timetable:

  • Lowry Homes developer was selected to deliver homes over a three - five year time frame – 2004.
  • First phase of the development due for completion - December 2008.
